ABDC 6 - Episode 7 - The CrankyCap : come to the dark side, we have transviloquists
Busy, busy, busy. I'm drowning in projects and to be honest, writing my recap wasn't very high up on my list of priorities but if I don't do it today, it might not happen at all so let's get to it.
This week is Ninja ... Minja ... wait, what's her name? *googles* Oh! Minaj! Have no clue who that is. It's Nicki Minaj week. She looks like she could be related to Lil' Mama but with multiple personalities, apparently.
First though, as is now tradition on the show, the four remaining crews will kick things into gear with a group performance.
and this is Cranky's tradition ;-)
Follow up:
Not the best group performance I've seen on this show but it was okay. I liked how they mixed up the crews and gave as many people as possible a chance to shine in the spotlight. They all did well. Very reminiscent of Missy Elliot, I thought. But that one was way better. Aw, I miss the days when we had really awesome seasons.
Moving on to the important stuff now. Mario is set to reveal the name of the first crew that will definitely return next week and that crew is I aM mE, which leaves Street Kingdom in the bottom two. Part one of my prediction has come true already. I'd try to look surprised but we all know I'd fail miserably.
Nicki Minaj actually comes over to meet the crews herself. That's kinda cool. And then this happens :
what the HELL is this?
It's like a nightmare. Only worse. *shudders* Maybe I should have kept the drinking for this week.
Anyway! I aM mE is up first and for their challenge they need to incorporate a children's game into their routine.
swinging
I thought they handled their challenge really well and very creatively. I saw a number of children's games but I got bored with the bits in between. I can't help it. Judging by the reaction from the crowd, I'm clearly in the minority.
Over to the judges.
JC says this is a group of professionals who are analyzing their tasks and taking them on in a very intelligent way. He tells them there were times when he saw them thinking about things and they can't let the judges see that. They have to keep performing and keep playing the crowd.
D-Trix says he's been looking for mistakes in the routine but didn't find any. He says they took advantage of the challenge in every aspect and tells them to keep it up and he can't wait to see them next week.
Lil' Mama says their timing is impeccable. She says they have their own identity and stand strong and that they need to keep up the good work and keep the confidence going for the next show.
Whatever. Still don't like them. Bite me.
Mario will now reveal the next crew through to next week and that crew is Iconic Boyz, leaving Phunk Phenomenon to battle it out in the bottom two. Prediction number two, check. Again, I'd try to look surprised or even shocked but I saw this coming miles away. I should play the lottery this week. Come to Cranky, oh lovely millions!
Right then. On to Iconic Boyz whose challenge is to become living dolls and move like marionettes. Who got a chuckle when this kid said they had to be nsync and feel connected without strings? Anyone? Just me? Ooookay then.
puppet on a string
These guys are seriously adorable and they are trying so hard! They did well with their challenge and showing the no-strings-attached marionette moments. They even threw in a bit of ventriloquism. It shows they're thinking about things and wanting to be creative. They've come so far but as a whole, I'd say this crew shouldn't be in the final.
D-Trix says he likes that they used all the elements he loves to create a good show. They had the comedy, the character of the puppets and the stunts. He says it's cool to see because they started out as a crew who did just choreography and he loves that they are now contributing all these different elements. He loves how they threw in some bboy stuff and says they did a great job this week.
Lil' Mama says they are definitely expanding on this show. Someone should really tell her the proper word to use is "growing". Pu-lease! She says they keep it really clean and utilize the stage. She likes that they're switching it up and showing diversity. They also created a .... *rewinds* ... a transviloquist? AHAHAHAHAHAHA! The fuck is a transviloquist? Why does nobody ever laugh at her when she says something so stupid? Or why doesn't MTV cut it out? They really want us to take someone like her seriously? *wipes tears from laughing so hard* She says they stuck to the theme and they are awesome.
JC says the other two judges pretty much touched on everything. He says he sees them evolving stylistically and they are trying to add all these different elements but he agrees with D-Trix that they need to frame it a bit. And then he throws in the ventriloquist word, probably just to show Lil' Mama how it's supposed to sound. *snort* Overall, he feels they did a good performance, not their greatest but good.
Alrighty, time for the battle of the bottom two.
Phunk Phenomenon gets to go first and for their challenge they need to take on some Indian belly dancing with belly rolls and hip isolations. I hope I'm saying this right because I have no idea what the hell this stuff is.
I just liked this moment
They handled that really well considering I thought their challenge was stupid. Beebo (Bebo?), the little dude fell at one point but all credit to him, got right back up and joined the rest of his crew and didn't let it show he was upset/annoyed/whatever. Hopefully that won't cost them. They are so clean and they use the stage so well and just like every other performance they've done, they go all out and give 110%!
D-Trix tells them that right there is how you fight when you're in the bottom. He said they had so many amazing moments. He then proceeds to give Beebo some pointers on how to manage bodyrolls when you're a bboy because it's hard for them to do.
bahahahaha!
I completely lost my train of thought. He says he's proud of them and sad about the three brothers who lost their dad who is no doubt a proud father looking down on them right now and he tells them to keep it up.
Lil' Mama says she loves how they executed the challenge because they did the bellyrolls but they kept it funk and they brought it hard. As a crew they are awesome and she says they had a great performance.
JC says this routine definitely had moments that encompassed Minaj because there were fast moments and slow moments. He says he felt bad for them when they got the bellyroll but he says Trey handled it really well and owned it. Of course JC notices and points out that Beebo got lost and fell over but he likes that he got back on the horse and didn't get mad and he kept it going. Overall, a pretty good performance.
Last up tonight, Street Kingdom whose challenge is to flex some drills like military soldiers.
ten-huuuuuuuuut!
I think they wasted another great opportunity here. I'm just not feeling the "fight" coming from them. They handled their challenge well and the drills were easy to see but I feel they could have done so much more with this. It seems they wasted a lot of time until things started to get going.
Lil' Mama would like to direct her first comment to Tight-Eyez who earlier said they are led by faith and not by sight because it's the most powerful statement you can make. She says their performance started out a little slow tonight but they finished strong and the performance was dope.
JC agrees with Lil' Mama and says they only have about a minute or so to make an impact and it feels though they wasted the first twenty seconds of it but once the routine kicked into gear it was really great. He says they understand the concept but he hates that they wasted so much time at the beginning.
D-Trix says he's surprised at how much they've grown on the show and he congratulates them because they've come so far in this competition. He agrees with the other two judges that it took a while for them to get there but when they got there, it was so fire and nasty. I guess that's a good thing? He says he's proud of them and wants them to feel proud of themselves for what they've done for the krump community and the entire dance community. He has made love for them and tells them to keep it up.
Time for the judges (or whomever) to decide who still has a shot at the title and the money.
And after what feels like forever, Mario finally reveals the crew that goes through and they are Phunk Phenomenon!!!! YAY!!!!!
Street Kingdom gets a standing ovation from the judges and just like 787 Crew, they go and shake hands with the judges and there are hugs and it's all so sweet!
aaww
So, we're down to three crews and next week they will be performing to Kanye West. Here's my prediction : I aM Me will be safe. The Boyz and The Phunk will battle it out and I'm hoping PP makes it because like I said before IB is good, especially taking their age into consideration, but I don't think they should be in the final.
Apologies for the typo's if there are any and for the complete rush job I did on this. Sometimes my days just need to be that little bit longer. See y'all next week! :-)

I didn't really like I aM Me this week, it got really boring really fast. My favorite was Phunk Phenomenon, they were absolutely brilliant and I was sooo happy when they were kept on.
Great recap, I always look forward to it because I finally feel like someone agrees with me... The ABDC audience and I never see eye to eye... ;)
I agree its time for the Boyz to go. They definitely deserved to be there longer than some of the earlier crews that were eliminated, but the last couple episodes have shown to me that they have topped out creatively. A big round of applause for them, but I don't they or anyone else wants them to knock one of the other crews out just because they're adorable and cute.
Having said that, I don't think any of the crews did that great this week and really hope they step it up because, seriously, last chance guys.
Thanks for the recap Cranky!
I love your tradition.
Another great recap! Even under pressure! And your screen caps are always so great.
ten-huuuuuuuuut!
THIS made me LOL.
I was so sure you were right, going into this episode. I was sure the bottom would be Phunk and SK, and I was so ready for Phunk to go home that I didn't quite believe it when they got saved! \o/ Judges, you surprised me in an awesome way.
(I was imagining D-Trix and Mama doing some more crying about SK and JC giving them that Mom Face like DON'T EVEN, you two, please consult my expression if you're not sure who's boss.)
Cranky and Joanne, well said about the Boyz. I think you're exactly right that they've gone as far as they can go vs. the other groups. And that they deserve credit but they shouldn't be in the finale.
I continue to like IaMmE, but I get slightly bored when they're brain-banging or whatever. I like Phunk a lot better.
OMG D-Trix showing Bebo how to...OMG. I watched it a second time, and it was even dirtier than I first thought. Um, 1) That was not sexy, D. 2) That was not relevant, D.
3) I died laughing at JC's expression. Because yes, it was really TMI. And at the same time, Mr. C, I am tempted to quote some of your song lyrics to you. (Which I LOVE, please don't get me wrong.) I just had a such a funny moment watching JC clutch his pearls over there. (It sorta looks on him, actually. Like everything.)
I really want Phunk to win but I'm not hopeful.
THANKS for these recaps every week! I really look forward to them. :)
All I can say is that I always feel sorry for JC having to sit next to Lil Mama every single week. The fact that he has not snapped yet just shows you that he seriously has WAY more self control and patience than I would have in his shoes.
Either that, or those notes he keeps writing is REALLY just a running tally of the stupid things she says every week.
