DJ : Well in case you were wondering, America’s next Best Dance Crew, which is a Randy Jackson production by the way, premieres tonight on MTV and one of the judges on that show, I understand Mario Lopez is the host, one of the judges of that show is JC Chasez and he joins us right now on Jack’s Big Breakfast. JC, thanks for chatting with us, man, appreciate it.
JC : Yeah, you know, the fact is, that this show is really based on the talent that arrives, you know, from all over the country and kids just fall in love with these dance crews, their stories, you know, their back stories and then, you know, what they end up delivering on stage. They’re just a great energetic group of people.
Follow up:
DJ : This is actually now season 5 of America’s Best Dance Crew and it’s produced by Randy Jackson or Randy Jackson presents rather, featuring yourself, Lil’ Mama and Mario Lopez as the host so you’ve got pretty much an all-star cast there.
JC : We do. We have a great group of people that we’re working with. We just brought in a brand new judge this season. His name is Omarion, who’s obviously really well known and so we’re excited to have a brand new judge, which gives the show a bit of a different dimension, a new look, a kind of fresh new make-over as well as, we’ve added a few episodes to this season to make the show a bit more exciting because the judges have now gone to the cities of the auditions as well as hosting, you know, the national competition itself.
DJ : We’re talking with JC Chasez. He’s one of the judges of America’s Best Dance Crew, premieres tonight, season five does, on MTV. Do a lot of these people have, you know, real training or do you find that some of these people just kind of learn, you know, off the streets and through friends, trying it out in their own hometowns without really having formal dance training.
JC : I think there’s a little bit of both going on. I think, you know, in most crews there’s maybe one or two people that have actually taken a few classes and then I would say there’s three or four of them that are just kind of, you know, making it up on, you know, in their basements or you know, with friends , you know, on the streets or wherever. Because some of these crews are battle crews, you know, which is, breakdance battle crews. These guys basically just kind of go out, almost like street performers, you know, put the hat down and rip for everybody. So everybody’s background is different but I think most of the crews are a bit of a mix. I think that each crew presents maybe one or two people that have taken a few dance classes and I would say that, you know, three or four people haven’t, so.
DJ2 : Okay, it’s JC Chasez on the phone with us with America’s Best Dance Crew. And when the show isn’t exciting enough, the grand prize, 100.000 dollars! How cool is that?
JC : Yes, indeed, you know, which, you know, which helps in the economic times.
DJ : Absolutely right. And is there any point at which one of these crews, you know, might get spotted by somebody and say “hey, you know, you could be in a video or you could be, you know, go out on tour or something”?
JC : We’ve had the first season winners, the Jabbawockeez, gone on to do like Gatorade commercials and things like that. We’ve had Ronnie from the season two crew winners, were a group called Super Crew and the guy Ronnie ended up doing like some stuff with Red Bull. So we’ve already had some people branch out and actually, you know, get some professional work after the show.
DJ : Very cool. It seems like a great stepping stone for them to actually get some national attention so right on, man. Alright well, it’s JC Chasez. The show is America’s next Best Dance Crew and it premieres tonight on MTV. You can catch it every Thursday afterwards. JC, thanks for chatting with us today, man. We appreciate it.
JC : Thanks, buddy.
DJ : Alright, take care, man.
JC : Take care.
