Dawn Until Yesterday review
While newly single Justin Timberlake has been bringing the sexy back to music, his former N*SYNC bandmate J. C. Chasez is bringing the pop back, with a little help from JT.
Timberlake has co-written and co-produced Until Yesterday, the first track on Chasez’s upcoming currently untitled sophomore album. Quintessential old-school pop, this track is more Beatles-esque than 21st century. It tells the story of a man who discovers his girlfriend is pregnant with another man’s child. Chasez sings to the cheater, If you play with fire then you’ll get burned/ When will you learn now it’s your turn/ Remember all the lies you sold me/Made me feel so sad and lonely/ Now your fairytale’s unfolding/Nothing left to say ‘cause I loved you all the way/Until yesterday (oooh), Oh until yesterday.
Follow up:
Chasez’s debut solo album Schizophrenic was met with lukewarm response and the artist failed to strike a chord as a legitimate hip-hop performer. The only taste of musical success he experienced post-N*SYNC was his colloboration with BT, who is considered by many to be the Father of Trance music. Their Somnambulist (Simply Being Loved) duet in 2003 was a fan favourite but Chasez continued to remain relatively unknown.
With Until Yesterday, however, he is poised to catapult to a new level of fame. If the rest of his sophomore album is anywhere near as good, JC might join the success ranks of his fellow former Mouseketeers Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Keri Russell (Felicity) and Ryan Gosling (The Notebook).
