MTV VMA Forum

MTV VMA Forum

Trent of Pink Is The New Blog interviewed JC at the MTV VMA Forum on 8/30/06.

Trent: All right, I am talking to JC Chasez of NSYNC and solo artist extraordinaire. Thank you so much for talking to me.

JC: It’s all good, man.

Trent: The last album - it’s been a while since the last album’s been out…

JC: Yeah.

Trent: …and we’re dying to know, um…new music. When’s it coming out? When can we hear it?

Follow up:

JC: Uh, the new…I’ve got a single coming out this fall, um, at the end of October, November, somewhere around there. It’s called “Until Yesterday.” I co-wrote it and co-produced it with Justin Timberlake, actually…

Trent: Oh, nice. Right.

JC: …who’s about to drop an amazing record. Um, and then I’ll have mine - my album to follow after that, so, you know, top of the year.

Trent: Is the, is the new stuff - is it gonna be in the same vein as the last album? The last album was really cool, really funky…

JC: The last record was very…I mean, Schizophrenic. It was, uh, it was very eclectic. My taste in music hasn’t changed, but what I did with this record is I kind of developed a new sound. It seemed like, the last record, it was like, I would do an R&B song, and then I would do an emo song, then I would do this kind of song. Instead what I did is, I kinda like molded the sound into one sound, uh, which is really becoming my own sound. The first single draws on inspiration from, like Freddie - actually a lot of Freddie Mercury.

Trent: Nice.

JC: Which is refreshing, you know. It’s a new sound for now.

Trent: It’s great, it sounds exciting. Um, so, tour, maybe?

JC: I’m gonna get out there, run around, hang out at all the radio stations, get ‘em to play the tune and yeah, I would love to tour, yeah.

Trent: Um, okay, I got a couple of VMA questions that I wanna ask. I know you’re very familiar with the VMAs, you guys have been here numerous times performing and you won many many awards. Um, what is your favorite VMA moment? Not necessarily that you were in, per se, but what’s your favorite VMA moment?

JC: Um, I don’t know, man. I mean, I just like - I just like being here in this space. I would say the most insane thing about being here is running into the people that you’ve seen from afar yourself. I mean, everybody’s a fan of someone, you know. Uh, and whether they wanna say that or not, they are. Everybody is a fan of someone, you know. I don’t care who you are. Busta Rhymes - he might not listen to rock and roll all day, but he sees Bono, he knows who Bono is. You know what I mean? And so I think that’s probably the most exciting part of being here - the people I’ve met.

Trent: The thing about the VMAs is so many different people come together.

JC: Yeah.

Trent: And there’s always these cool collaborations or…

JC: The thing about the MTV Music Awards more than any other awards shows, also, is that this probably allows for the most artistic expression. Like most, uh, awards shows are very traditional.

Trent: Right.

JC: And here, they applaud when people express themselves, and that’s what’s great about this awards show.

Trent: Well, it’s great talking to you. Thank you so much for talking to me. It’s very nice meeting you, good luck with the album, looking forward to it.

JC: Thanks.

Trent: And, uh, thanks!
