East Ramapo band takes pride in big screen debut

NEW CITY — Fifteen-year-old Michael Rose never thought he'd see himself on the silver screen.
But there he was yesterday, waiting outside the Clearview New City Cinemas while fellow East Ramapo Marching Band members chatted excitedly and took photographs.
Rose, a tenor saxophone player who will be a sophomore at Spring Valley High School, and his bandmates were there to see the 6:50 p.m. showing of "The Manchurian Candidate," in which they perform...
The movie is not the band's first brush with fame. It routinely wins or places highly in local and national marching competitions and in June 2003 played before 50,000 people at Giants Stadium as part of the backup band for 'N Sync member JC Chasez. That was followed by an appearance on "Good Day New York" and the usual round of local football games and other shows...
