Eminem And 'N Sync Lead Video Music Award Noms
(7/25/00) Launch

Eminem and 'N Sync snared six nods each for the upcoming 17th annual MTV Video Music Awards when the nominations were announced early this morning (July 25). The rapper's "The Real Slim Shady" and 'N Sync's "Bye Bye Bye" will compete against Blink 182's "All the Small Things", D'Angelo's "Untitled (How Does It Feel)," and the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Californication" in the best video category.

As for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the California-based act received a total of five nominations, the number also received by Metallica and Sisqo.

Sisqo's "Thong Song" was nominated for the viewer's choice award, which is awarded to the video that receives the most votes from the cable network's audience. Other nominees for the viewer's choice honor include "The Real Slim Shady," "Bye Bye Bye," Christina Aguilera's "What A Girl Wants," and Britney Spears's "Oops!. . . I Did It Again." And talk about cat fights--both Aguilera and Spears received four nominations apiece and will go head-to-head in three categories.

The awards show will air on September 7, recognizing the achievements of several urban acts by awarding "Moonmen" trophies for the best rap video, best R&B video, and best hip-hop video.

Several acts, such as Destiny's Child and Toni Braxton, were able to cross over from urban-oriented categories and into best group video and best female video, respectively. The event will be hosted by the Wayans Brothers, whose hit film Scary Movie has scared up more than $100 million at the box office in less than three weeks of release.
