N-Sync's Christmas Wish

N-Sync's Christmas Wish

As N-Sync continues tearing up the charts with two albums--its self-titled debut and Home For Christmas--and dazzling U.S. audiences with a tour that runs through January, the back-flipping boys are ready for a little R&R for the holidays.

"When you travel so much, all you can think about is how much you value and miss your family and friends," Justin Timberlake says. "The only thing I can really wish for is lots of time to spend with them. And my two front teeth."

Chris Kirkpatrick assures fans that a little time off for presents and home cooking doesn't mean N-Sync is ready to slow down its career. "Right after the holiday, we have to finish this tour. Then, we go overseas, and we have an arena tour starting in March."

The Florida popsters are also heading for the studio between road trips. "We've been working on songs on the road and we are ready to record again," Timberlake says. "We want to get in the studio pre-arena tour. We have a process when we record. We write a bunch of songs, throw them all in a pit, and then pick the ones we like best. It will be a nice mix of ballads and party songs. Listen to us, we don't have anything recorded and we are telling you what we are going to do."

With a scheduled release date set for August on RCA, one wonders if the band worries about overexposure. "We have two albums in the top 10. That's a feat not accomplished by many bands," says Lance Bass. "Obviously people are buying it and want to hear us play. We think our fans will be ready for new songs. With the release of the Christmas album, I also think we broadened our market as well. Older people and guys are coming out more often."

JC Chasez chimes in, "Yeah. We're now soliciting the VH1 crowd."

When asked, the band shrugs off the common criticism that they aren't talented, that they are clones of the Backstreet Boys, or that they aren't making meaningful music, because the boys feel success is proof enough and prefer to focus on the positive. But Joey Fatone does add to the naysayers of the current boy-band bonanza, "Don't be a playa hating."
